The Faith Of Abraham

Updated: Jan 7, 2019

Hebrews 11:8-12-“It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise. Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God. It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise. And so a whole nation came from this one man who was as good as dead—a nation with so many people that, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them”

Genesis 22:1-18- Abraham Tested

“Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

Genesis 17:5 “No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.”

Genesis 18:17-19 The LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”

Genesis 21:1-3 "The LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had promised. And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac.”

Romans 4:16-“ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.”

FATHER ABRAHAM

In a world like ours

To find a Faith such as Abram

was one in a million even then

He had such Strong Faith

He would even go so far

As to slay his son

Obeying God in such a way

There was none like him

Not even one

Even though God stopped him

you can't under estimate his faith

Or his Love to our Father God

Or how he just trusted & obeyed

God made him a promise

and God is Justice & righteousness

all in One

He keeps his promises and told him

From you

"All Nations will come."

Then he

Became the Father of every single one

Blessed are we the decedents of him

God Even went so far as to

Change his name

From his courage and faith

ABRAHAM HE BECAME!

Abram who's named was changed to Abraham, was a faithful obedient man of God. His Faith was so strong that God promised he would and has become the father of all nations.

Can you imagine what a humble man he must have been? To go so far as to Say his first son? All because God told him too? Though God righteously intervened in the act, I cannot tell you many or even one person on earth right now that I know who would do such an act of obedience.

I have heard many people and preachers talk about How God does not speak to us Today or anymore. But God does still speak to us today, but his word speaks to us in many different ways. The easiest way to hear him speak is through his word, the bible, that is finished and complete and can be a fully trusted account or way to hear him speak to us. Yet, many people still cannot or will not follow the full instructions of it.

Question? If God told you today to go and jump off a bridge and he would catch you, some believers might say I would do it. But would you really? The truth of the matter is that Abraham was somebody who would eagerly do it, for God had told him too. He would not even second guess it. But would you? The truth of the matter is Abraham...well he was one in a million.

The bible tells us that in the Last days There shall come forth two witnesses who will have faith like Moses and that of Abraham.

Could God be talking about you? Maybe. We all desperately need to start opening our eyes and ears to what the father may be telling us to do. To hear him speak is to believe and trust that he can...even today. Just maybe he is speaking and talking right now to YOU. Maybe you just weren't willing to listen. I urge you to pray about and maybe he will open your eyes and ears.

Prayer For Today

Father God,

Today I come humbly before you. with open eyes and ears and an open heart. I pray that if you are speaking to me today, even as I read this devotional,I may see and hear and believe all that you are doing. I am so thankful for Jesus, and that you sent your son, to die for me and all my sinful ways. Sometimes, It seems difficult to just be able to stop and just listen to what all you may be wanting me to hear.

Father Abraham

I want faith like Abraham, may you give me an unshakable faith like he had, so I may honor your name and give you all the glory.

In Jesus Christ Holy Name I Pray,

Amen.
